Your own AI assistant, and links
Use your own AI assistant
If you already pay for an AI assistant (Claude Code, Codex on a ChatGPT plan, or Gemini in Antigravity), iReliabee can hand its text work to that assistant instead of its own AI. Your plan pays for it, and no iReliabee credits are used.
Covered: everything that writes text: notebook Explain, Simplify, glossary, follow-ups, check your understanding, Study mode, mind maps and Deep Read; debriefs, meeting notes, follow-up emails and translating a saved transcript; plans, stories and suggestions; text practice; and Live Companion answers.
Not covered: audio (listening, transcription), translating live captions during a call (your assistant is too slow for them) and screenshots always use iReliabee's own service and credits. Your assistant only ever receives text.
It works through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the standard way assistants connect to apps.
Set it up once
- In iReliabee, open Settings and choose My subscription in AI.
- Settings shows a setup command made for your computer. Copy the one for your assistant:
- Claude Code: paste the
claude mcp add --scope user …line into a terminal. You only need to do this once: it works in every folder, not just the one you ran it in. - Codex (ChatGPT plan): add the block Settings shows to the end of
C:\Users\<you>\.codex\config.toml(on Mac or Linux,~/.codex/config.toml), then restart Codex. - Antigravity (Gemini): in the agent panel open … → MCP Servers → Manage MCP servers → View raw
config, paste the entry inside
"mcpServers", save and press Refresh. You should see ireliabee with the toolsnext_request,submit_answerandrelay_status. - Other MCP assistants (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf): add a "stdio" MCP server with the same command and arguments.
- Claude Code: paste the
- Check it worked. Keep the iReliabee app open: your assistant connects through it, so the connection only
works while iReliabee is running. For Claude Code, run
claude mcp listin a terminal; you should seeireliabee … ✔ Connected. - That's it. It keeps working after you restart iReliabee or your computer, and after updates. If Settings ever
shows a different command, update it in your assistant. For Claude Code, run
claude mcp remove ireliabee --scope user, then paste the new line.
The ChatGPT app and website can't connect: their connectors only reach online servers, and iReliabee's connection runs only on your computer. Use Codex, which signs in with the same ChatGPT plan.
Use it each time
- Open your assistant and start a conversation.
- Type start iReliabee (or pick the ireliabee-listen prompt if your assistant shows prompts).
- Leave that conversation open. Use iReliabee as normal: when you press Explain or finish a debrief, your assistant writes the answer and it appears in iReliabee.
Why type "start iReliabee"? In MCP the assistant always makes the calls. An app can answer an assistant, but it can't start or wake a conversation in one, so you start the listening once per session.
When it doesn't answer
"Your assistant isn't listening": assistants often stop after a while. Type start iReliabee again, or choose Use credits instead to do just that request with iReliabee's AI. iReliabee never switches to credits without asking you.
"Waiting for your assistant" for a long time: your assistant is probably asking you to approve its
iReliabee tool. Look at its window and choose Always allow (not "allow once") for
next_request and then submit_answer. After 20 seconds iReliabee shows where to click.
"Your assistant didn't answer": it took too long. Try again, or use credits for that request.
Is it slower? Usually a little: a few seconds to about 15. That's fine for notebooks, debriefs, plans and practice. In a live call answers can arrive late, so the Live Companion offers Use iReliabee's AI for the rest of this call. For an important call we recommend iReliabee's own AI.
Switching back: turn the setting off at any time. You can leave your assistant connected; it's ignored while the setting is off.
Is it private?
With the setting on, the text a task needs goes from iReliabee to your assistant on your own computer. Your assistant's company then processes it under your account and their terms. iReliabee doesn't see, relay or keep those requests or answers. The connection only works on your computer and uses a private pairing key, which you can replace in Settings at any time. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Ask iReliabee
Press Ask in the title bar, or Ctrl+K, and ask how to do something or where a feature is: "how do I practise for an interview?", "where is the dictionary?". iReliabee answers from its own list of features, says where to find it and what it costs, and Open it takes you there.
- Free and instant. These answers come from iReliabee itself, not from an AI: no credits, and nothing you type leaves your computer.
- It doesn't guess. If it isn't sure which feature you mean, it asks "did you mean…"; if something isn't in iReliabee, it says so.
- Or let your own assistant answer. If Claude Code or Claude Desktop is connected, choose it under "Answers from" and it answers instead, on your own plan: see Ask with your own assistant.
- Websites, through your own assistant. With your assistant answering, you can ask it to open a page, read or check it, click, fill in a form or move between pages. It asks you in the app before every step: see Websites with Ask.
- Make it wider or narrower. Drag the panel's left edge. Double-click the edge for the usual width; with the edge focused, the arrow keys resize it too. Your width is remembered on this computer.
- During a call Ask stays closed, so nothing gets in the way.
Websites with Ask
Choose your own assistant under Answers from in Ask, then ask for something on the web: "open ireliabee.co.uk and tell me the prices", "fill in this contact form with my name". Your assistant does it on your own plan, and the panel shows each step as it happens.
- Your go-ahead, every time. Opening a page, clicking, typing, choosing from a list and pressing a key each show a card in the app naming exactly what will happen. These can't be set to Always allow.
- Never passwords or card details. It won't type them, and it stops at sign-in, payment and "are you human" pages and leaves those to you.
- Which browser. If your assistant has its own browser tools, such as Claude in Chrome, it uses those. Otherwise iReliabee opens its own browser window (Chrome, Edge or Firefox), separate from your everyday browser, or, with the iReliabee extension switched on, a tab in your own Chrome or Edge, where you're signed in.
Using your own browser
The iReliabee extension for Chrome and Edge lets your assistant use a tab in your everyday browser, where you're signed in. It isn't in the Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons yet; this page will say when it is.
- With the extension added, click its icon and switch on Let my assistant use a tab in this browser. It says Connected to iReliabee when the app is open.
- Ask for a website task. The card says it will open a tab in your own browser, where it can see and use what you're signed in to on that site.
- It uses only the tab it opened. Close that tab, press Cancel on Chrome's "is debugging this browser" bar, or switch the extension off to stop it.
If the extension says it can't reach the iReliabee app, open the app; it shows the browser's own reason in brackets. Only one browser can be connected at a time: switch it off in the other one first. More in the Privacy Policy.
Let your assistant use iReliabee
The same connection works the other way too: your assistant can ask iReliabee things. Ask Claude Code or Claude Desktop "what does iReliabee's Write do?", "list my Write projects", "open my notebook on entropy", "add a note to my entropy notebook" or "review my essay's introduction", and it uses iReliabee's tools to answer.
- Set it up: Settings → Connected assistants shows the line for Claude Code and the config for Claude Desktop. If you already set up your own assistant above, it's done.
- You're asked every time. A card in iReliabee says what the assistant wants and what it will get: choose Allow once, Always allow this tool or Deny. If you don't answer within 50 seconds, nothing happens. The name on the card is the one the assistant gives itself, so allow only what you just asked for. Always allow lasts until that assistant restarts.
- During a call the tools are off, so nothing interrupts you, unless you turn on Tools during calls.
- What it can do: explain iReliabee's features, list your projects, notebooks, sessions and meetings (titles and dates only), read one project or notebook, and open a screen. When you allow it, it can also add a note to a notebook, replace a Write section's text, and create a project or notebook, and run Write's review or a notebook study tool on your credits. It can't share, send or delete anything, and never gets photos or recordings.
- Changes are shown first. The card for a change shows exactly what will be written, marked as your assistant's: the whole note, or a section's text before and after. Links show their whole address and can't be clicked. A project or notebook you edit together with other people can't be changed by an assistant yet.
- Undo: each change in the log has an Undo button, while nothing has changed since: it never undoes your own edits, and says what changed if it can't. Undoing a new project or notebook moves it to Removed by Undo, where you can restore it for 90 days. Only you can undo, never the assistant.
- Paid tools ask every time, price first. Write's review (
run_review) and the study tools (study_tool: a mind map, a chapter's questions, a paragraph put another way) use your credits, as the buttons in iReliabee do. The card shows the most the request can hold while it runs and what it usually costs, and it never holds more. They can never be always allowed or auto-accepted. For these, your text goes to iReliabee's AI: Anthropic's Claude unless you choose Standard below, which can use DeepSeek. See the Privacy Policy. - Which AI paid tools use: in Settings → Connected assistants, choose Anthropic only (the default: only Anthropic's Claude, never DeepSeek; it usually costs more) or Standard (may use DeepSeek), as the rest of the app does, which usually costs less, though the most a request can hold is the same or higher. It applies to every assistant on this computer, and each card says which one it uses. See the Privacy Policy.
- Daily credit cap: in Settings → Connected assistants, set the most paid tools may spend in a day, for all your assistants on this computer together. A request that would go past it still asks, and its card says by how much. Settings shows what they spent today.
- Auto-accept: for one connection, you can let every read tool, or every read and write tool, run without a card until that assistant restarts. Meeting details and other people's shared work always ask, and nothing runs during a call unless you turned tools on for calls.
- See and stop it: Settings → Connected assistants has a log of every request and Disconnect for each assistant. What you allow goes to your assistant's company under its terms: see the Privacy Policy.
- Ask iReliabee with your own assistant: in the Ask iReliabee panel, choose My own assistant and your question goes to your own assistant (for example Claude Code or Claude Desktop), with a summary of iReliabee's features, and its answer appears in the panel. It needs the assistant running and listening (type start iReliabee). If your assistant doesn't pick the question up within about 10 seconds, or picks it up but doesn't answer within a minute, the panel says so and offers iReliabee's own answer. Answering uses no credits: your assistant's plan pays, though a paid tool it asks to run would use credits and always asks first. Your question goes to your assistant's company under its terms, and the tools it uses follow your Connected assistants settings. It's off during a call. ChatGPT can't answer here yet. See the Privacy Policy.
Add a link to a notebook
In Notebook, press Add a link and paste a web page, a blog post, a research paper, a YouTube video or a social post. iReliabee reads it, shows you the text to check, and adds it as a source you can make notes from, Explain and study.
Most public pages are read directly: articles, papers (including the PDF behind a paper page), YouTube transcripts and public posts on X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Reddit and TikTok. Public Instagram and Facebook posts come through Meta's official embed service where it allows.
Posts you have to sign in for
When a page needs you to sign in, iReliabee says so and offers Open in app browser:
- iReliabee opens the link in its own small browser window. The first time, sign in there yourself.
- Open the post you want, then choose Save to notebook in the window's menu (or press Ctrl+Shift+S).
- iReliabee takes the post, not the page around it, and only when you choose. You check the text before it's added.
If a public read only got part of a page, the review screen offers the app browser too. Your login stays in that window on your computer: iReliabee never sees your password, never signs in for you and never browses on its own.
Links and credits
Reading a link, directly or through the app browser, uses no AI and costs nothing. Making notes from it, Explain and study work like every text feature: on your own assistant if that's on, otherwise on credits. As a last resort you can add a screenshot of a post; reading a screenshot always uses iReliabee credits (images never go to your assistant), and the cost is shown before it runs.
